That is a 19hp increase just from making everything in the engine right and using a bone stock engine management system (mods aren't allowed in SE30). The car then made 162rwhp on the same dyno. It did get an overbore because the cylinders were past the wear limit and the head was carefully rebuilt. That car got destroyed late in the season and the engine was torn down and rebuilt while I built the new car. Compression numbers were pretty good, but leak down numbers were 20-30%. The numbers (on a dyno jet) were disappointing, 143rwhp. I bought a 120k mile engine out of a 525i (auto) for a previous SE30. If the cylinders have over 15% leak down numbers, new rings and cross hatch honing of the block should be seriously considered.Ĭase in point. If the results show the cylinders in good condition, you can frequently pick up 10-15hp on a 150k engine by a good head refresh (3 angle valve grind, new or blueprinted cam). Compression (dry & wet) and leak down tests will tell how much wear there is in the engine and where it is. These cams faired better than the 264s below 4,500 RPM on our test engine equipped with the large-runner intake manifold. We replace the fuel pump for a upgraded high pressure version, allowing a reliable and sufficient amount of fuel to be delivered to the engine.
